Newport is Taking it to the Streets for 2nd Sunday!
Fun and Heathy Activities for the Whole Family!
On October 11, 2009, Newport’s Monmouth Street business district becomes the center of an action-packed Sunday on Oct. 11, offering everything from bicycle rides and bike rodeos to karate demonstrations and gardening tips.
The first annual 2nd Sunday event kicks off Sunday morning with the Bike Newport 2nd Sunday Ride – actually a series of bicycle rides that leave downtown. The four rides will raise funds for the Newport Police Department bike patrol and range from eight to 63 miles.
Also planned that day is an activity packed showcase of downtown Newport’s expanding mix of fitness and activity oriented businesses, along with a variety attractions for the entire family. Monmouth Street will be closed to all but pedestrians and cyclists between 2-5 p.m., from 6th to 10th streets, allowing the usually busy thoroughfare to serve as a people-friendly stage for the afternoon’s activities.
